Care Instructions
At Nitto Knitwear, we design jumpers for every season.
In winter, we work exclusively with extra-fine merino wool, renowned for its softness, natural warmth and lightness.
In summer, we use cotton jumpers for their comfort and breathability.
These two natural materials do not react in the same way to water, heat or rubbing. Here's our advice on how to look after your Nitto Knitwear jumpers and keep them looking good for as long as possible.
Machine Washing
Cotton jumpers (summer collection)
Cotton is a hard-wearing fabric. You can machine wash your cotton jumper on a delicate programme at 20°C.
Always turn the jumper inside out before washing to protect the outside of the knit.
Use your usual detergent.
If your washing machine has a spin cycle, choose a gentle speed of 600 rpm.
Extra-fine merino wool jumpers (winter collection)
Extra-fine merino wool is more sensitive to heat, but can be machine-washed if you choose a special wool programme on cold (max 20°C).
Also turn the jumper inside out to protect it during washing.
For spin-drying, we recommend a gentle speed, 600 rpm maximum.
Spinning too fast can damage the fibres or deform the knitwear.
The jumper will still come out quite damp, this is normal: all you then need to do is dry it well flat (see below).
💡 Tip: washing your jumper inside out limits direct rubbing on the knit, which prolongs its hold over time.
Hand Wash
Extra fine merino wool does not require hand washing if the machine is set correctly. However, if you want to clean a stain on a light colour, you can rub it gently by hand with lukewarm water (30°C max) and a mild stain remover.
Washing frequency de lavage
A jumper, whether in merino wool or cotton, does not need to be washed after every wear. If it is not stained, it is advisable to wash it after about 6/7 wears.
A good wash moistens the fibres, making them softer, more resistant and also limiting the appearance of pilling.
💡 For a jumper that isn't stained: a cold wash on a delicate programme is all you need. No need for stain removers or high temperatures.
Drying
We strongly advise against tumble-drying a jumper, whatever the material. The intense heat of the tumble dryer is often responsible for shrinkage.
After spin-drying:
-
Dry the jumper flat, on a towel on the floor or on a drying rack.
-
Do not hang it up on a hanger, as this could distort it.
-
Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.
Ironing
For cotton jumpers
Ironing is possible. Set your iron to the "cotton" temperature and run it gently over the garment, without pressing. Do not leave the iron on the same area for too long to avoid marks. This gentle ironing will restore the garment's suppleness.
For merino wool jumpers
This is not always necessary. If you want to iron your jumper, do so at a low temperature, gently, without pressing too hard so as not to flatten the knit. It will come out softer.
What about Nitto Knitwear?
All our jumpers are washed and dried before they go on sale. This means that the yarn has already taken on its final shape, making it more stable and resistant to washing.
Each piece is carefully designed to combine strength, comfort and elegance, and our jumpers are made with respect for the materials, the seasons and our know-how.
